AI search terms we use
Every count in your report is defined here by the rule behind it, along with GEO, robots.txt and the other terms these docs use.

Counts in your report
- Mentioned
- The answer mentions your company by name. A name that is also a common word counts only when it is written as a brand.
- Recommended
- The answer calls your company the best, the top or its recommended pick. Being listed first does not count.
- Cited
- The answer lists your website as a source.
- Wrong
- The answer says something false about your company. Software flags it and we confirm each one by hand before it counts.
- Unnamed source
- The answer lists your site as a source and never mentions you. The first line of the leak count.
- Rival named
- The answer to a question close to a purchase calls a competitor the best, top or recommended pick and never mentions you.
- Missing facts
- The answer gives another company’s price and none for you. This line counts prices only.
- Wrong statements
- The leak count’s line for answers that say something false about you.
- Leak count
- The answers where AI is costing you, each counted once under the first leak it shows. The four lines add up to the total.
The work
- Snapshot
- Our free report. 50 questions, each asked three times on four AI tools. Its full name is the AI visibility snapshot.
- Quick check
- Our free check on ChatGPT. It asks 10 questions once each.
- Sprint
- Our six-week project. We fix the pages and outside sites behind the answers, then ask the same questions again at six weeks and 90 days.
- Retainer
- Our monthly work, with 6 to 10 pieces of work a month and a weekly scorecard.
- Monitoring
- A weekly count of the Sprint’s questions and a note each month.
The field
- AI search
- Finding a company by asking an AI tool such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or Google’s AI Overviews instead of reading a list of links.
- GEO, AEO and AI search optimization
- Three names for the same work. GEO is generative engine optimization and AEO is answer engine optimization. The aim is for AI tools to mention and recommend you when your customers ask.
- AI Overview
- The answer Google writes at the top of some results pages. Google shows none for some questions.
- AI crawler
- A program an AI company runs to read web pages, either to answer questions or to collect training data. See AI crawlers and robots.txt.
- robots.txt
- A file at the root of your website that tells each crawler what it may read.
- llms.txt
- A proposed file at the root of a website that lists its pages in plain text for AI tools. See llms.txt and plain-text copies.
- Connector
- A way to run a tool inside Claude or ChatGPT. bisica has one for its two free checks. See Use bisica in Claude or ChatGPT.
